REPRESENTATIVE CASES. The Childress Law Office is a full-service family-law, estate planning, tort and domestic relations law-firm.

Lisa Peacock v. Hon. Don Humble, 933 S.W.2d 341 (published opinion by Texas Court of Appeals, Austin, 1996). Our client the father was awarded custody of a 4-year old girl. Mother filed an appeal, which was denied.

In the Interest of T. J. S., a child, 71 S.W.3d 452 (published opinion by Texas Court of Appeals, Waco, 2001). Mother of a child and a prospective adoptive couple sued our client the biological father to terminate his parental rights. Mother had given the child away to the couple wanting to adopt, at the hospital after the birth, over our client’s objection. Sidney demanded a jury trial and persuaded the jury to deny the adoption. Our client was then awarded time-sharing with the child. We then sued a licensed adoption agency that helped create this fiasco.

Karpien v. Karpien, New Mexico Court of Appeals case # 2009-NMCA-043. We represented the husband in this divorce. The wife died intestate, or without a will, while the case was pending. Nevertheless, the trial court conducted a trial and awarded the wife’s estate a share of the community property. We appealed, arguing that because the wife died without a will, the Probate Code mandates that all community property was automatically inherited by our client.
